General Introduction

Purl Jam is a knitting project founded by Nguyễn Bảo Nghi Anh (Dolly), an 11th-grade student at Phillips Academy Andover (USA). The idea for the project began with something very simple: Dolly’s love for knitting with her grandmother.

Over time, she realized that behind the soft strands of yarn and the repetitive motion of knitting needles lies much more than a handmade object. Knitting can be a creative experience, a quiet moment of reflection, and a gentle way to reconnect with oneself.

Inspired by that realization, Purl Jam was created as a club combined with community-oriented initiatives, bringing together students in Vietnam who share the same passion for knitting and a desire to give back. It is a space where people can learn from one another, share ideas, and create together.

For us, knitting is not simply a craft skill. It is a slow and mindful journey – where each stitch helps us become more focused, more patient, and sometimes allows us to find a moment of calm within our busy lives.

Alongside community activities, Purl Jam also develops handmade knitted products carefully crafted by our members. Through the project’s website, we hope to bring these handmade creations closer to a wider audience while also generating resources to support and sustain the club’s meaningful activities.

One of the most important goals of Purl Jam is to bring knitting workshops to charitable shelters and homes, where children can experience a simple yet joyful creative activity. We believe that sometimes all it takes is a strand of yarn and a little patience for a child to create something truly special of their own.
